Anaphylactic Shock

When thinking about workplace dangers, most people overlook internal reactions to potentially hazardous stimuli at the office or jobsite. Unfortunately, though, allergic reactions can affect many people, and they should be taken seriously. Extreme reactions such as anaphylactic shock may even cause death if not treated immediately.

If you or someone you know has been the victim of anaphylactic shock in the workplace, you may be eligible for financial support in the form of workers’ compensation. Contact the Pennsylvania workers’ compensation attorneys of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C., at 610-667-7511 to talk to an experienced lawyer about your situation today.

Symptoms of Anaphylactic Shock

During an anaphylactic reaction, the body undergoes a variety of negative side effects. There are many substances, foods, and products that can result in this type of allergy, and when the body overreacts to these allergens, workers may be in danger of an unexpected anaphylactic reaction. Some of the symptoms of anaphylactic shock include:

  • Hives, blisters, or rashes breaking out over the body
  • An extreme tightness in the chest and lungs
  • Swelling of the face, lips, and tongue
  • A closure of the throat resulting in a lack of oxygen to the body and brain

Anaphylactic shock is basically a severe form of an allergic reaction. While many people are aware of their allergies, sometimes a chemical or material at the worksite can trigger an unexpected allergic reaction and even anaphylactic shock.
