Burns at Work

Many workers are employed in places that put them at risk for burn injuries on a regular basis. Unfortunately, many people are also in danger of burns that do not realize it. Even sitting in a traditional office setting can put a worker at risk for burn injuries, though in a bit of a different way than some others.

The most traditional burn injuries come from fire, especially in places that use high heat as part of the production process. Fires, ovens, and boiling liquids are all regularly-used sources of serious burn injuries.

In addition to those more prevalent burn sources, employees in a more “regular” office environment can be at risk for burns as well. If the coffee machine makes the drink too hot, either through misuse or a general malfunction, then the liquid can certainly be hot enough to cause a serious burn injury. Especially if spilled on the skin, hot coffee or tea can be seriously hazardous.

Also, if the sinks at the office or in the bathroom are not working properly, and can get too much hot water, then there is another potential source of burns from the water at work. These non-traditional ways to be burned are not very often considered as a legitimate threat, but in certain circumstances, they can be very dangerous.
