Crane Accidents
In an era when buildings seem to get higher each time a new one is built, cranes are an integral part of construction equipment. They seem to dot the skyline of any major metropolitan area at any given time, as there always seems to be another tall building being constructed. Anytime a building of any substantial height is built, cranes must be used.
Cranes transport materials from different parts of the construction site to the upper levels of a building. They are very complex machines, and the engineering that they involve is complicated. Because of this, it makes the operator’s job very important. The cranes are often stuck in spaces where they do not have much room, so they must be anchored very securely to the ground. If this is not done properly, the crane may fall over.
The operator also has the job of assuring that the rest of the construction site is safe from crane misuse. They are not very simple to operate, and if they are not kept within the design specifications, the results can be disastrous.
Objects can fall from cranes, as the devices that secure the materials are not always perfectly handled. Also, if the crane tries to pick up too much weight, it could collapse. In either case, the results can be fatal.
Cranes are massive machines that can be extremely beneficial and helpful in the construction of tall buildings. They also, though, have the potential to do serious damage if they collapse or drop materials.
