Drowning
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 3,000 people drowned unintentionally in the United States last year, which comes out to an average of about 9 people per day. Drowning is a very real danger and must be taken seriously. It is an all too common cause of death, especially among young children. However, children are not the only ones at risk.
There are a few types of workers who would be in danger of drowning while in the performance of his or her job. Certainly anyone who works for a company involved in fishing or other oceanic activities would be at risk. Those who work for a boat tour company would also be in danger of drowning, as they regularly perform their jobs on the water.
People whose jobs are performed on the water are not the only ones at risk of drowning. Any company that uses water or other liquids as part of their production process would likely have huge tanks on their property. An employee could easily drown in one of these tanks, should an accident occur.
In addition, some fire extinguisher systems involve sprinkler systems that could cause a person to drown in the event of a malfunction. These instances are rare, to be sure, but they are still a possibility.
