Natural Gas Leak
Many of the same dangers that exist for private homes are equally hazardous for offices and other buildings. A natural gas leak is no exception, as it can be extremely dangerous for any building, whether it is a residence, an office building, or a retail center.
Natural gas leaks are dangerous for a few reasons. The natural gas itself can be quite harmful when inhaled significantly and for an extended period of time. In its unadulterated state it has no noticeable smell, so most companies add methane to it so that people can recognize the danger when there is a leak. This is a very helpful precaution, but does not help prevent the leaks in the first place.
Also, natural gas leaks are problematic because the gas is so flammable. We use natural gas because it is an efficient source of heat, as it is very easily combustible. Having a natural gas leak in a building puts that place at serious risk for a large explosion.
Workers who have to perform their jobs in a place where there is a natural gas leak are in danger from both the possibility of inhaling too much natural gas and also of the potential explosion that would be frighteningly easy to spark.
