Scaffold Collapse

During construction, workers are faced with a variety of injury risks. They work with dangerous tools, often use explosive or volatile materials, and are working on unfinished buildings that may not be completely sound structures. It is imperative that they be as safe as they can to ensure their protection, but even this may not always be enough to prevent injury.

Scaffold collapse is an unfortunately common source of accidents to construction workers. Scaffolds are constructed on nearly every building that is more than one story tall, since it is often the easiest way for workers to finish the exterior of tall buildings.

They are often constructed very quickly and rarely with as much care and concern as the building that they are meant to service. This puts them at risk for collapse due to hasty or faulty construction, since they are not always made very carefully.

In addition, workers are always in danger of falling off of scaffolding, as they usually scale significant heights on buildings. Workers and other individuals on the ground level are at risk from objects that have fallen off of the scaffold at higher levels, which can be extremely dangerous. Dropping a hammer from a few stories up in the air, for example, can be fatal if it were to hit a person in the head at ground level.
