Slippery Surfaces
Falling on a slippery surface is an easy way to be injured while at work. It would not seem to be terribly common, but it happens more often than people may think. Slippery surfaces can be caused in a variety of ways, from an improperly waxed floor to spills or unmarked wet spots. In any event, they can be very dangerous for the workers that frequently walk across them.
Slipping on a wet surface can cause significant injuries. The fall can be quite dangerous because most people are completely unsuspecting and are not braced for the fall. Also, the fact that they have slipped will put their body in an odd position that will result in an awkward fall and landing.
Most slippery surfaces are hard surfaces, like concrete or wood, which will be more likely to cause an injury when someone falls on them. It is difficult for a cushioning carpet to become a slippery surface.
Some places are more likely to have dangerous slippery surfaces than others. The typical office is unlikely to have a slippery surface except for a leak or a spill, but some factories are at a much higher risk for these kinds of dangers. Any production facility that uses lubricants and waxes could definitely be in danger of these hazardous situations.
