Toxic Exposure
Workers can be exposed to many types of substances and objects while on the job. Especially in companies that produce significant amounts of products, especially when using chemicals, workers often handle very dangerous materials. These can range from radioactive materials to corrosive chemicals to explosive powders.
In any event, it is the responsibility of the employer to provide the correct safety and regulatory practices and equipment for the office, warehouse, or production facility where these objects are kept. Hazardous materials are a very serious matter and must be dealt with accordingly.
Employees can be burned by acids, for example, in a battery factory, or can come in contact with dangerous combinations of drugs at a pharmaceutical company. There are countless ways for workers to be injured, often very seriously, by the materials that are present in their workplace.
If an employer has not taken appropriate steps to keep his or her workers safe, then the injuries that result may be such that the company is held liable. The workers certainly have the responsibility to practice safe work habits and to be as cautious as can be, but if the system is designed badly and the correct equipment is not in place, there is nothing that a worker can do to avoid being injured.
