Vocational Rehab
When workers’ compensation claims are filed, and even after they are granted and a settlement is agreed upon, the form of that compensation may not be monetary. In many cases, the compensation provided may cover more than repayment for medical bills and similar expenses. Compensation can include expanded or new benefits, or sometimes vocational rehab.
In cases where there is partial or temporary disability, the victim may be able to perform some of their previous job tasks, but not every aspect associated with it. When this happens, the employer will often change the position of the worker or will tailor their responsibilities to the things they are now able to do.
Vocational rehab can take many forms as well. In most cases, re-training the injured individual will prepare them for their new roles and their new abilities. Vocational rehabilitation can include new job placement, custom training, assistive technology, an assessment of current abilities, and help with independent or assisted living.
Being injured on the job in such a way that it impairs your ability to perform your duties is a traumatic experience in itself. It is important for your employer to use vocational rehab to help make you comfortable in a new role and find the best fit for your skills.
