Construction Worker Falls to Death from 10th Story Hotel

Posted on March 23rd, 2009 2 Comments

A construction worker died last Wednesday as he was working on a new hotel.  The new hotel is located in New York City.  The man was on the 10th floor when the accident happened.

The company that hired the worker has been cited in the past for safety violations, according to an official that handles buildings.

The investigation has shown that the man was not wearing a safety harness which could have possibly prevented his death.

EMT Workers have Difficult Job

Posted on March 23rd, 2009 No Comments

EMT Workers and Ambulance drivers have a particularly difficult job.  Not only do they have the stress of holding someone's life in their hands,  they have to provide treatment as fast as possible.

For an EMT,  seconds are extremely valuable.  While responding to emergency situations,  they have to navigate traffic at high speeds putting themselves in danger to increase response time.

Because of this,  EMT accidents and injuries can occur while responding to a victim.  The line of work is difficult and injuries can occur. Because of this,  benefits and compensation should be given if needed.

Work Place Injury May Not Occur All at Once

Posted on March 18th, 2009 No Comments

When many people think of a work place injury or workers compensation,  they may picture a one time accident that causes broken bones and other injuries.  These accidents are unfortunate when they occur,  but they are not the only work place injury.

Many workers are injured by working on repetitive tasks or being exposed to conditions that can build up trauma over time.  The best example of this is an injury like carpal tunnel syndrome.  Other types of these repetitive injuries can occur by being exposed to an environment that incremental damage over time. For example,  a rail road worker has recently sued his company because the train he rode in was extremely bumpy and has given him health problems from the exposure to the constant shaking.

If you are a worker and are injured,  but don't quite know from what,  you may be a victim of a repetitive task injury.

If you or someone you know has had a repetitive motion injury while on the job, contact the Pennsylvania workers' compensation lawyers of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. today at 610-667-7511 for more information about our legal services.

No Workers Comp For Man After Shift Ends

Posted on March 11th, 2009 No Comments

A drilling company worker will not be able to receive workers compensation after an appeal court denied is case.

The case involves a drilling company worker who injured himself on the company site.  The company site had a crew housing unit that would allow workers to stay there as long as they took care of themselves and kept it clean.  Ten hours after the man's shift was finished,  he heard a pop in his back after bending over to pick up an item on the ground.  The man asked for workers compensation and was denied.

The case highlights some of the challenges in receiving workers compensation when injured on the job.

Union Recommends 2 Workers in Train Cabs

Posted on March 6th, 2009 No Comments

A federal safety panel on Wednesday was discussing passenger trains in the United States.  The main focus of the panel discussion was the accident that occurred last year in California.  The accident in California resulted in the death of 25 people and injured over 100.

Union officials have offered some of their opinions on how to better avoid accidents in the future.  One of the biggest recommendations that they offered was that more workers need to be hired in order to better control the train. The union recommends that at least two workers need to be assigned to a cab.  This can allow for better management of the train.  The panel heavily debated the recommendation and wondered if it would have prevented the accident in California that led to the deaths of several workers and passengers.

'Three Mile Island' Anniversary Approaching

Posted on March 6th, 2009 No Comments

The 30th Anniversary for the Three Mile Accident is soon approaching.  The accident occurred in 1979 at Dauphin County in Pennsylvania.  The accident was the most infamous in United States nuclear power history, and has been used as a centerpiece in the debate of the hazards of nuclear power being used in America.

Although no workers were injured that day,  the possibility of serious worker injury did exist.   It is an event that did not produce a death or serious injury,  but it did highlight some of the dangers of individuals who work with nuclear power can face while on the job.

Obesity and Workers Compensation

Posted on March 6th, 2009 1 Comment

The link of obesity and workers compensation is beginning to become stronger.  Many employers and researchers are looking at the data and are beginning to see the effect obesity has on workers compensation claims.

Obesity has traditionally been something that is not normally considers or factored into many injury claims.  In a recent study,  it was found that individuals who are termed obese are 45% more likely to file claims.  The study found that individuals who are obese and file for workers compensation claims also take longer to heal.

The data between the link has been difficult to obtain.  Many companies are hesitant to allow this information to be released because of fear of privacy violations for their employees.
