Business leaders and government officials worked together in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on Friday in hopes of coming up with a solution to deal with the state's unemployment-compensation trust fund. This unemployment-compensation trust fund is being dried up because of the recession. A dramatic rise in individuals hoping to receive payments has put the entire fund in jeopardy.
The fund is running low on cash, and may receive help from the federal government. The help from the federal government requires, however, that the state increase the eligibility of benefits in the upcoming years. This means that the state will have to decide if it will be able to pay off all the workers now and have to pay more in the future, or if it will try and fix the problem without federal assistance.
