Medicine One of the Largest Costs for Workers

Posted on May 27th, 2009 7 Comments

Following the treatment of an injury in a hospital with medical equipment and a doctor's supervision,  many workers are given a regime of medication and pills to take for their injuries.  This medication can be responsible for a large majority of the costs associated with workers' compensation.

After a cast is removed or other treatment is finished,  the use of medication may continue for a long period of time.  These long costs of medication may add up to more than it costs to treat the initial injury.

With these costs in mind, it is extremely important that workers' compensation cover all the related medical costs to the treatment of a worker.

Many Scared About Reporting Injuries

Posted on May 22nd, 2009 No Comments

It is an occurrence that happens many times over in the American workplace, injured workers go to work each day suffering from their injury.  The worker may feel that mentioning the injury could put them at risk for losing their job, and because of this, will keep quiet about it.

A worker should never be scared to report an injury to a supervisor.  Supervisors should encourage an individual reporting a personal injury, because the sooner it is addressed, the quicker the worker can be healed.  Further, an unreported injury now could turn into a long-term disability in the future if the proper treatment does not happen.

If you are injured, speak up.  If you speak up and no action is taken,  then you need to contact someone who will fight for your rights.

Electrical Accidents Are Common

Posted on May 20th, 2009 No Comments

One of the most common types of work place related injuries are a result of electrical accidents.  Many times a worker is electrocuted or shocked with large amounts of electricity.  In many cases,  electrical accidents cause serious injury.

This type of accident can happen across a variety of professions, although it is more common with individuals who work with electricity on a day to day basis.  However, this does not mean that electrical accidents only happen to electricians.  Many times,  construction workers can unknowingly hit a electrical line while digging  causing them to be electrocuted.  Other times, faulty wiring may cause the accident.

In any serious electrical accident,  medical costs will add up as treatment takes time.

Helmets Can Help Prevent Serious Work Place Injuries

Posted on May 18th, 2009 No Comments

The use of helmets is important in improving worker safety.  Helmets can provide protection from a variety of accidents that can occur on a work site.

Helmets have some effect at protecting the head from falls.  If a worker falls and a helmet takes the brunt of the force,  the worker may have a less serious injury.

Helmets can help protect against falling objects.  Objects at construction sites can sometimes fall from high levels to the ground floor.  If an individual is under an object when this happens, a helmet may be the only thing that could save their life.

It is important to look at the policies at your work place.  Good helmet policies can make a difference between minor and serious accidents.

Fork-Lifts Can Be Dangerous

Posted on May 15th, 2009 1 Comment

Many accidents that take place while on the job involve the use of fork-lifts. Fork-lifts can pose a danger in a few certain situations.

To begin,  fork-lifts sometimes are operated by inexperienced individuals.  A worker should be properly trained to work a fork lift.  If they are not, they could potentially hurt themselves or others.

Next,  fork-lifts can pose a threat because of the front lift.  This part of the fork-lift can pose a stabbing threat and can injure an individual seriously.

One of the most common types of accidents involves the maneuverability of a fork lift.  Sometimes while operating it,  a fork-lift will get caught or run into an object and cause it to collapse or knock over.

If you or someone you know works with a fork-lift, please be aware of the safety issues.

Some Injures Are Known Only Years Later

Posted on May 13th, 2009 No Comments

Some injuries that are suffered while on the job are never apparent immediately.   These types of injuries occur over the course of time, and may cause a greater health injury to the individual than an immediate accident.

These types of injuries can be seen with individuals who worked with asbestos on their job.  This type of exposure injury can also be seen with individuals who help pioneer emerging technologies without realizing the dangers of the new technology.

It is important that if you are on the job,  that you are compensation if your health is harmed.  No amount of wage can make up for serious harm to an individual's health.

If you or someone you know has bad health as a result of work place exposure, contact the Pennsylvania workers' compensation lawyers of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. today at 610-667-7511 for more information about our legal services.

Worker Killed in Crane Accident

A construction worker has lost his life in an accident that took place recently.  The accident occurred in Benton, Arkansas.

The worker was 45 years-old.  Early on Thursday morning around 10:00 a.m., the accident took place.  According to the initial reports,  the crane was lifting extremely heavy concrete to be used in construction of the overpass.  The load was so large, that it caused the crane to pivot.  When the crane pivoted, it struck the worker. The man was taken to a hospital by emergency workers, and he died while at the hospital.

When operating cranes, all the of proper safety precautions should be taken.  Crane accidents are some of the most serious accidents to occur in a work place.

The company that hired the boy is now having to pay a large fine because of the boys death and because of the age of the boy.   The company that hired the boy will have to pay a $53,000 fine for a child labor violation.  The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is also recommending that the company face another fine that is around $25,000 for workplace safety violations.

States Look at Ways to Cut Budget

Posted on May 6th, 2009 1 Comment

Many states are attempting to address the national recession by taking steps to cut their budget.  Many states are running way over budget, and hope to create a budget that does not lose money.

One of the attempts to address is this that many states are cutting their funds to workers' compensation programs.  Workers who have worked for the state for a long time may find themselves with reduced coverage if many newly proposed budgets are approved across the United States.

A reduction in funds to worker compensation programs may have many unintended consequences that are not yet realized.
