Company to be Fined for the Workers Death

The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration will fine the Loren Cook Co. over a half a million dollars for an accident in which a worker lost his life.  The worker was killed when a piece of metal came loose and struck the worker in the head.

The fine is largely because of an investigation by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration which determined that the company was allowing employees to work on dangerous equipment without taking the necessary safety precautions and procedures.  The company also exposed workers to being hit by debris from spinning lathes.

Workers Overcome by Fumes in Shipyard

A recent accident took place in Florida that injured two workers.  The workers were taking part in a ship cleaning project in a shipyard when the accident took place.  The area of the ship the workers was cleaning became full of noxious fumes.  The noxious fumes began to have a serious effect on the workers.  One worker became overcome by the fumes and passed out.  Another worker became disoriented and was able to leave the area on his own.

Firefighters were called and were able to remove the man who passed out.  Both individuals involved in the accident were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.

It is important whenever working with powerful fumes,  that a company ensure that the workers are provided with the gear such as breathing apparatuses and masks.

Emergency Workers at Risk of Accidents

Posted on November 6th, 2009 No Comments

Emergency workers are at a high risk of accidents while on the job.  Firefighters,  police officers, and paramedics are some of the first individuals to arrive at the scene of an accident and able to offer professional assistance.  These individuals attempt to race to a location in order to save as much time as possible. In an emergency situation,  every second can count and sometimes can be the difference between life and death.

During this rapid response,  accidents can and do happen.  Numerous police officers, fire fighters, and paramedics are injured as they attempt to rush to an emergency scene in their vehicle.  Either the emergency worker will lose control of their vehicle, strike another vehicle, or be hit by another vehicle.  The speeds can be relatively fast in many cases,  causing the likelihood of injury to greatly increase.
