A new study shows that effective treatment for truck drivers who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can lower healthcare costs and disability rates. The study is in the May Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

The researchers used insurance claim reports to look at the effects of OSA treatment in truck drivers. They compared 156 drivers who were treated and 96 drivers who were diagnosed with OSA and not treated.

The results showed that truck drivers who were effectively treated missed fewer days of work and had lower short-term disability costs. Health plan costs also decreased by $2,700 in the first year.

Statistics reveal crane accidents are most common cause of construction deaths

Posted on May 7th, 2010 No Comments

Statistic reveal that crane accidents are the most common cause for construction site death. There are over 125,000 cranes used in operation in the construction injury and another 100,000 in general and maritime industries. The amount of people that are involved with getting cranes to operate, means that if there is an accident there are many people that may just be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Although technology has improved and cranes are able to do things that they haven’t before, hundreds of people are killed in the U.S. every year from crane accidents. It is very important that work sites supply the appropriate safety procedures and provide workers with the appropriate gear. The major cause of crane accidents are: outrigger use, dropped loads, overturned cranes, boom collapsing and buckling and more.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a crane accident or suffered another construction injury, contact the Pennsylvania construction injury lawyers of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. by calling 610-667-7511.
