Cases of Missouri worker's compensation noncompliance more than double

Posted on April 14th, 2010 No Comments

The Missouri Labor Department’s Division of Worker’s Compensation (DWC) has more than doubled their number of fraud and noncompliance referrals to the state attorney general’s office for worker’s compensations violations this year as compared to 2009.

Such a large increase is a result of a number of factors, foremost amongst them the fact that employers are more likely to cut worker’s compensation coverage during a difficult economic time and that the DWC has stepped up efforts to correctly analyze and prosecute cases of worker’s compensation noncompliance.

An employer must possess worker’s compensation coverage in Missouri if he employs five or more workers. For an employer involved in construction, that number is only one or more workers. Failure to provide worker’s compensation coverage is a Class A misdemeanor and can be punished with a fine of up to $50,000. Misreporting injuries or failure to report injuries is a Class D misdemeanor.

If a company fails to adequately insure its employees, it should be punished. Call the Pennsylvania worker’s compensation lawyers of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. at 610-667-7511 if you have questions about this or find yourself in this kind of position.

Worker Killed at Recycling Plant

Posted on July 15th, 2009 No Comments

A worker has recently lost his life in a recycling plant. Emergency officials were called to the plant by other workers.  When calling emergency officials, the other workers informed the officials that the other worker was killed by heavy machinery.

Little is currently known about the accident.  A lot of information has not yet been released by the company.  An investigation will occur that will look into the accident to better determine the serious of events that led to a worker losing his life.

If you or someone you know has been injured while on the job, please contact the Pennsylvania workers' compensation attorneys of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. today at 610-667-7511 for more information about our legal services.

The American Workforce

Posted on July 1st, 2009 No Comments

The American workforce represents a lot about America.  The variety of workers, backgrounds, education, and culture, are all a part of our national workforce.

It is a firm belief that America has the best and hardest workers in the world.  Because of this,  it is important that healthcare and treatment of any worker injured on the job is a priority for the company itself, but also for our country.

When an individual is injured and is denied care,  the system as a whole suffers because it seems to make this type of treatment acceptable when it clearly is not.

Burn Injuries Common for Plant Workers

Posted on June 10th, 2009 No Comments

Burn injuries are one of the most common types of injuries that a worker may suffer from.  Burn injuries can occur in a variety of ways.

To begin,  a traditional burn may involve machinery or other equipment that reaches extremely hot temperatures.  These injuries can vary from 1st degree to 3rd degree burns.

Another type of burn injury is a chemical burn that is suffered.  Many workers have to handle hazardous chemicals.  These chemicals can sometimes cause burning the instant that it comes into contact with human skin.

These types of burn injuries are different, but have similar traits.  If a worker has either of these injuries,  the worker will need time to heal and recover from the accident.

If you or someone you know has been injured while on the job, please contact the Pennsylvania workers' compensation attorneys of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. today at 610-667-7511 for more information about our legal services.

Construction Worker Falls to Death from 10th Story Hotel

Posted on March 23rd, 2009 2 Comments

A construction worker died last Wednesday as he was working on a new hotel.  The new hotel is located in New York City.  The man was on the 10th floor when the accident happened.

The company that hired the worker has been cited in the past for safety violations, according to an official that handles buildings.

The investigation has shown that the man was not wearing a safety harness which could have possibly prevented his death.

Police Officer Killed in Auto Accident While Responding to Call

Posted on February 20th, 2009 No Comments

A police officer was killed in a car crash on Wednesday while responding to another officer's call for back up.  Officer Richard Matthews, 28, died in the late-night accident. According to police officials, Matthews was attempting to avoid debris on the highway when he swerved his police cruiser and smashed into a tree.

Matthews was en route to assist officers who had stopped a driver suspected of possessing drugs.  Police believe the driver of that vehicle had thrown a box out the window, thought to contain drugs.  They say it was likely this box that caused Matthews to have the wreck.

Matthews, a former NYPD officer, had been with the Wilmington Police Department since 2006.  His family resides in Pennsylvania.

Sadly, tragic deaths like this one occur every day.  If you or someone you know has been involved in an accident while on the job, contact the Pennsylvania workers' compensation lawyers of Lowenthal & Abrams, P.C. today at 610-667-7511 for more information about our legal services.
