Worker killed in Saltsburg construction accident

A 21-year-old man was killed after a Saltsburg construction accident that occurred at Faith Alliance Church last week.

According to police officials, the accident occurred as the man worked with a clean up crew near the church. They were pushing a ladder when it hit a high-voltage power line and caused the men to be struck with an electric shock.

The men were transported to the hospital in order to be treated for their injuries. After arriving at the hospital, a 21-year-old man was killed because of his injuries. The current condition of the other two men is unknown at this time. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now investigating the accident.

Company fined after fatal trench collapse

Federal regulators have fined Eclipse Builders Inc. after a construction accident occurred when a trench collapsed and killed one worker at a Newberry Township site.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited the company with three willful violations after the trench collapsed in December 2010 and left one person dead.

The report stated that the company exposed employees to trenching hazards such as failing to protect the workers from trench cave ins. The incident occurred when an employee was installing a water pipe at a construction site of a Wal-Mart store.

While in the 18-30 foot trench, the walls collapsed on top of the men. Hundreds of personnel responded to the scene to aid in rescuing the men. One was transported to the hospital and the other was pronounced dead on the scene.

Worker injured at parking deck construction accident

A construction worker was injured Tuesday after an accident occurred at a parking deck in North Carolina.

A worker was using a tool to put holes into the rock so that poles could be put through when the incident occurred. The tool then malfunctioned and it fired too soon.

The worker was out of the hole when emergency crews arrived at the scene. The parking deck belonged to the Wesley Long Hospital. The injuries that the man suffered were described as minor or non-life threatening.

Man hurt in construction accident

The man that was injured at a construction site at a high school  has now been identified as a 51-year-old man.

The man was working on a Technical High School demolition project when debris collapsed on top of him. Firefighterswere able to free the man from the pile of rubble at 2 pm.

The man was transported to the Baystate Medical Center’s Intensive Care Unit where he is listed in critical condition. The building was in the middle of renovation in order to make room for a new state data building.

Company being looked into after a trench collapse

A Chester County company is being looked at after a trench collapse killed one man and injured another in a construction accident.

It is unclear at this time if any safety violations were committed during the accident, but the company has had 20 safety violations in the past five years.

All of the violations were for work done in  Pennsylvania including failing to use the proper protection equipment while working on bridge projects. An autopsy on the man will be done soon to find the cause of his death and his friend remains in the hospital at this time.

If the correct equipment is not used in a construction project, the outcome can be very tragic.Our thoughts are with the friends and family of the victim.

Two seperate Vancouver workplace accidents occur on same morning

One worker was killed and another one was seriously injured after two separate workplace accidents in Vancouver last Thursday.

The first accident occurred at 8 a.m. at Three Harbor Green luxury condos when he was struck by a concrete-pouring form. The man was employed by HP Construction Ltd.

In the second accident, the worker was working at a project at Canada Place when he fell a significant distance around 7:50 a.m. The worker was transported to the hospital right after the incident occurred. The man works for BirdAir, Inc. and which works with tensile fabric.

Two contractors fined after six workers injured in scaffolding accident

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has fined two contractors after a scaffolding collapse at a New York college injured six people.

The incident occurred at Binghamton University where new dormitories were being constructed. A scaffold bridge was connecting two separate platforms when it fell 40 feet and injured six workers.

After an investigation, it was determined that the scaffold platform bridge did not have the correct safety chains on it, but it is unknown who removed them. OSHA fined both the roofing company and the company that erected the scaffold.

Construction worker killed when backhoe overturned

A man was killed in a construction accident after he was thrown from a backhoe and it overturned on him while working on a project at the Budget Suites Inn.

The accident occurred when the 39-year-old man was clearing dirt around a hotel and using a backhoe machine to do so. The rear wheel of the backhoe then slid down a slight downgrade and into a ditch. This caused the man to be ejected from the machinery and fell to the ground and the backhoe tipped over on top of the man.

Co-workers noticed immediately and tried to help free the man, it is unknown whether the man was pronounced dead at the scene or at the hospital. Officials from the North Carolina Occupational Safety and Health Administration will be investigating the incident.

Six workers injured after scaffold collapse

Six workers were injured in a construction accident when a scaffold collapsed while they working on a housing project for Binghamton University.

The workers were building the new Delaware Hall around noon when the scaffold fell 65 feet. The workers were not trapped under the scaffold and three of the injured were able to walk when emergency crews arrived. No students were in the area when the scaffold fell.

Rescue crews transported the men to the hospital, three of them remain there. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified when the accident occurred and a full investigation as to what caused the fall is underway.

Pennsylvania contractor sentenced for safety violations

A Pennsylvania roofing contractor was sentenced for willful safety violations that caused the death of a worker after he fell 40 feet off a roof last year.

The man was sentenced to three years probation and six months house arrest after investigators found that the 29-year-old man that was killed was not wearing any harness or fall protection equipment that is required when working from high distances from the ground.

The man was sentenced for failing to provide the equipment to his workers. Also, investigators found that the man did not properly train new employees. The man pleaded guilty to the charges.
